Easy Purple Velvet Cake Recipe

Best Season: Summer, Spring

Description

This purple velvet cake is similar to red velvet cake in taste, texture, softness, and richness. I tried to keep it simple by layering it with white cream frosting but you can add purple food coloring to make it more purple. Adding nuts can be a great combination of crunch and softness. So before you melt into the velvety texture of purple velvet cake, try not to miss my jalapeno jelly recipe. So let’s get started.

Ingredients for Purple Velvet Cake

For the Cake:

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

Directions

Step-by-Step Guide to Flawless Cake Layers

  1. Grease, Line, and Heat

    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Get 3 round cake pans grease them and line them with the parchment paper to avoid cake sticking.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients

    • In a large mixing bowl, add all the dry ingredients including flour, granulated sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cocoa powder.
    • Whisk until well combined.
  3. Creating the Perfect Purple Batter Base

    • In another mixing bowl, combine the wet ingredients including, buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, vinegar, and purple food color.
    • Mix well until the mixture is smooth and evenly purple in color.
  4. Purple Meets Dry

    • Slowly add the batter to the dry ingredients mixture while stirring gently to combine everything well.
    • Avoid over-mixing the ingredients otherwise the cake will be hard.
  5. Filling the Pans with Perfect Batter

    • Pour the batter equally into the lined cake pans leaving some space at the top for the cake to rise.
    • Smooth the tops with a spatula and tap the pans on the countertop to remove any trapped air bubbles.
  6. Bake and Cool the Layers

    • Put the pan in the preheated oven for 35-30 minutes.
    • Remove from the oven and let the layers cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before moving them to a cooling rack.
    • Allow the layers to cool at room temperature on the cooling rack.

Creating Velvety Cream Cheese Frosting

  1. Mixing the Frosting Ingredients

    • Add softened cream cheese and butter in a large mixing bowl and mix well until it's creamy.
    • Add icing sugar gradually while mixing at low speed.
    • Add in vanilla extract and beat well on medium speed until the frosting is light and fluffy.

Constructing the Valvet Cake

  1. Piecing Together Your Delicious Cake

    • Once the layers have cooled to room temperature, place the first layer on a flat plate and add a lot of frosting. Spread the frosting evenly all over.
    • Put the second layer and add more frosting, spreading it evenly.
    • Now add the third layer and repeat the process.
    • Next cover the whole layer with a thin layer of frosting.
    • Refegrate the cake for about 20 minutes to set the frosting.
    • Remove from the refrigerator and add the remaining frosting on the top and sides of the cake.
    • Decorate the cake the way you want and enjoy.
